The Chaska Hawks hosted the Chanhassen Storm in the first of two meetings between the boy’s hockey teams this year. Chaska emerged victorious by a score of 5-3 including an empty net goal in the waning seconds of the game.

The Chanhassen Storm surged to an early 2-0 lead after the first period. Chanhassen forward Jack Spillers scored the second goal of the first period on a laser like shot from just inside the blue line, sneaking one by Chaska goalie Blake Jackson.

The Storm added a goal in the second period, but their early momentum was waning as the Hawks came soaring back, scoring two goals in the second. The period ended with the Hawks 2 and the Storm 3.

The third period belonged to the Hawks, who shut the Storm offense down in the period. The Hawks scored three goals in the fourth period, four unanswered goals to pull off the 5-3 win. After getting off to a slow start the home team, fueled by a loud cheering section, was able to get back on their skates and pull off the victory.

Chanhassen (1-2 in Missota conference play) will face Blake at home on Friday January 4. Chaska (1-1-1 in Missota conference play) will host Robbinsdale Cooper on January 5.
