The Class AAAAAA (6A) is the newest class in the Minnesota State High School League. It is also the class with the largest schools.
The Eden Prairie Eagles are the only team to win a 6A title and are on a run to win their third straight MSHSL championship and have made the tournament since 2006. The Eden Prairie Eagles would meet Totino Grace Eagles, one of the newest teams in the class, for a bid to face the Rosemount Irish in the 2013 Prep Bowl.
Eden Prairie crushed the Lakeville North Panthers 42-14 in the quarterfinals, a rematch of the 2012 Prep Bowl, to make it to Friday evening’s game. The Totino Grace went through the Osseo Orioles in a nail biter 34-33 on their path to the Class 6A semifinals.
Totino Grace lost 42-7 when the teams met on September 12, but have dominated all their opponents except Osseo the rest of the year.
Eden Prairie played an almost flawless first half, the only blemish was sloppy special teams play. At the half Eden Prairie had a 28-7 lead and, for the most part, had sealed the game’s fate.
The run-heavy Eden Prairie offense chewed up the clock in the third quarter with two drives that bled into the fourth quarter, taking up almost twelve minutes and adding 13 points to their total. The Totino Grace Eagles would pick up two touchdowns and a safety in the second half but their defense was no match for the red and black Eden Prairie machine.
Eden Prairie snatched a 47-22 victory and will face the Rosemount Irish in the 2013 Prep Bowl on November 29, 2013 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The 2013 Prep Bowl is the last Minnesota State High School League to be played at the Metrodome.
