St. Paul, Minn—- The 2013 Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) Boys and Girls Track and Field State Tournament was in full action today. The excitement took off quickly with the boys 3200 Meter Run Class AA. Obsa Ali of Richfield (Junior) stole the race by pulling ahead late to blow away the All-Time MN State record, finishing with an 8:57.07. The former record was 8:59.19.
While Ali took first place, the runner-up along with the 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishers also broke the previous Class AA state 3200 Meter record of 9:02.65 set back in 2007. Eli Krahn of Stillwater, Joey Duerr of Chaska, Zack Benning of Hastings and Jacob McDermott of Cretin-Derham Hall finished behind Ali respectively.
It had been since 2006 when Mike Torchia of Rochester Lourdes set the MN All-Time 3200 Meter Run Class AA record. The record now belongs to Obsa Ali and we’ll have to wait and see if his record too holds for seven years or more.
