The Festival of Champions is Canterbury Park’s salute to Minnesota horse breeding and racing. Trainer Mac Robertson had a fantastic day with four horses winning stakes races. The most exciting race of the day was race four where underdog Somerset Swinger defeated Polar Plunge by a nose in one of the closes races of the year.
The much anticipated race five, featuring Heliskier lived up to expectations with the 2012 horse of the year running away with the $55,000 stakes race. Heliskier ran neck and neck with Desert Alley through the final turn but Heliskier engaged another gear and ran away with the race in the final stretch.
On Labor Day, September 2, 2013, Canterbury Park will be the host of Wiener Dog Wars, where 72 dogs will square off in seven races while one will emerge victorious. This family event will not want to be missed. Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report for more information about Minnesota sports news.
