The Minnesota Swarm defense smothered the Washington Stealth in the final minute, escaping with the win in the team’s home opener January 26, 2013. The final score was 15-14 with the Stealth scoring the final two goals of the game in a nail-biter for the 8,000 plus fans in attendance.

The Swarm scored 15 goals by seven players and committed six penalties in the game. Three Swarm players scored hat tricks in the game including rookies Kiel Matisz and Shayne Jackson. Ryan Benesch returned to The Hive in fitting form continuing his scoring ways registering three points and four assists on the night. Andrew Suitor and Jordan MacIntosh scored two goals apiece. Andrew Watt and Callum Crawford rounded out the Swarm scoring with a goal each.

The Hive was buzzing and the Swarm needed the win tonight as they came into the game winless with a record of 0-2. The team is very young with 15 of their 23 active players in their rookie year or second year in the NLL. With the win the Swarm will finish January with a record of 1-2 and sit in a four way tie for second place in the West Division of the National Lacrosse League.
