Wiener Dog Wars 2013 at Canterbury Park

It was a cloudy, chilly Labor Day in Shakopee Minnesota as race enthusiasts filed in to the horse track at Canterbury Park to watch the pint-sized wiener dogs battle it out in Wiener Dog Wars.  The thoroughbred racing seemed, on this day to be the side-show as kids flooded the apron to watch the dogs race.

The odds on favorite, Oscar, was looking for his sixth win and his second straight sweep of the Dachshund Dash circuit at Canterbury Park.  Oscar came out in dominant fashion in his first race winning easily.

The other five heats ran and the top two finishers in each of the six heats went on to the finals.  As the twelve dogs sloshed waist deep in the soft racing turf all eyes were on Oscar and Lola, the two who looked best in the preliminary heats.

It turned out to be Duke who stole the show running stride for stride with Oscar before leaving him in the dust to take the 2013 Wiener Dog Wars championships, winning $100 in scratch off tickets in the process.

A grand time was had by all on this gorgeous Monday.
