Minnesota Gophers travel to Lincoln to face Cornhuskers

They will need to show up just big in Lincoln on Saturday if they are going to be able to defeat the 8-2 Cornhuskers, who will be celebrating senior day at Memorial Stadium.

Last year the Gophers upset the Cornhuskers in Minneapolis when they defeated Nebraska for the first time since 1969.

Some things to watch for in the game:

  1. Gophers’ running back David Cobb is 115 yards away from breaking the Gophers’ single season rushing record. The record, held by Laurence Maroney, is well within reach for Cobb, who is averaging 135 yards per game.
  2. Nebraska’s running game struggled mightily against the Badgers last week, rushing for only 118 yards.
  3. Nebraska gave up 581 rushing yards in one game, against the Badgers last week. The Gophers hope that there will be similar openings for Cobb in this game.

There are many other stories to look for, such as Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah’s injury, Maxx William’s emergence as a dangerous threat through the air for the Gophers and the fact that Nebraska has dominated the series in the last half century.

No matter the story line, this will be a game to watch as both teams are fighting for position in the Big Ten West division.
