East Grand Forks advances to first-ever MSHSL Boys Hockey Tournament Championship game with win over St. Cloud Cathedral

The top seed in the 2014 MSHSL Boy’s Hockey Tournament, East Grand Forks, faced off against St. Cloud Cathedral, the number four seed, on March 7, 2014 in the second Class A semifinal. For the Green Wave of East Grand Forks, the game was an opportunity to advance to their first ever MSHSL Championship game.

The number one seed kicked off the scoring two and a half minutes into the game when Colton Poolman put the puck in the net.

St. Cloud Cathedral responded in the thirteenth minute of the second period with a goal from Erik Gadbois.  East Grand Forks would finish the scoring in the fifth minute of the third period when Tanner Tweten scored the game winning goal, his third of the tournament.

East Grand Forks defeats St. Cloud Cathedral 2-1 and advances to the championship game.

East Grand Forks will meet the number two seed Hermantown Hawks in the 2014 MSHSL Championship game.  The game will feature a Championship game rookie (East Grand Forks) and the runner-up for the last four years as the Hermantown Hawks make their fifth consecutive championship game appearance.
