The Blake Bears appear in yet another MSHSL Girls’ Lacrosse finals – they came into the game with four consecutive state tournaments. This time they face the Eden Prairie Eagles on June 14, 2014.
The weather was not cooperating on June 14 as the teams took the field. The weatherman was predicting lightning and storms all afternoon. Never the less, as the game got underway it was a chilly day but dry and no severe weather.
The Blake School Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. Eden Prairie answered scoring the next three goals, tying the game with one second left in the game on a power play goal by Anna Johnson after the Bears took an unsportsmanlike penalty at the 24:15 mark of the first half. The first half ended with the score tied at 4.
At the ten minute mark of the second half the score was 6-6. Blake took the game over at this point, scoring five of the next six goals. With 3:41 left in the game, lightning struck. After delaying the game for about 45 minutes the league called the game at 11-7 for the Blake Bears. The boys’ lacrosse finals were moved to Monday June 16 at Chanhassen High School.
