Stillwater Ponies sent Lakeville South Cougars packing with last minute goal

The Stillwater Ponies girls’ lacrosse team defeated the Lakeville South Cougars 10-9 to advance to the 2014 MSHSL Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament semifinals. Stillwater’s Ellie Anderson scored the game winning goal with 28 seconds left in the game.

The Stillwater Ponies scored five straight goals in the first half to put the Ponies up 7-3. The Cougars scored the last goal in the half. Carter Sanderson led all first half scorers with a hat trick.

The second half belonged, for 24 and half minutes, to the Lakeville South Cougars. The Cougars spent the majority of the half in Stillwater’s end, scoring three straight goals to start the half and holding the Ponies scoreless until the twelfth minute.

Lakeville South evened the score at nine with four minutes to go in the game when Tea Baker found the back of the net for the Cougars. Three and a half minutes later Ellie Anderson ended the game with a goal.

Unfortunately, for the Ponies, Remi Larson went down hard with what appeared to be a knee injury in the last half-minute of the game.

Stillwater will take on Blake School on Thursday June 12, 2014 at Chaska High School at 7:00 p.m. The other semifinal game will feature a pair of Eagles as Eden Prairie will face Apple Valley at 5:00 p.m. The winner of the two semifinal games will meet on Saturday June 14 at Chanhassen High School for the finals, which will start at 5:00 p.m.
