The Minnesota Swarm lose to Colorado Mammoth

The Minnesota Swarm hosted the Colorado Mammoth on April 19, in the second-to-last game of the 2014 NLL season, in front of 7961 fans a The Hive in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Swarm was eliminated from the NLL playoffs last week but is playing for pride as their last two games of the year are at home.

The Swarm played Colorado very close in the first half despite trailing 9-6 at the half. The second half was not so close (although the teams replicated their score in the second half) and the Mammoth won 18-12.

The Swarm could not catch a break in the second half as Josh Gillam hit the pipe and Jordan MacIntosh got robbed.

For the Swarm the game did not have playoff implications. The Mammoth, however, clinched a playoff spot with their win over the Swarm. The Swarm now sit at 4-13 on the year that, despite their record, has had some bright spots.

Rookie Logan Schuss who continued his goal scoring campaign, scoring four goals, bringing his goals on the year to 34, placing him in a tie for fourth place in that statistic on the year. Callum Crawford also had a milestone game scoring his 142nd goal to pass Ryan Benesch as the Swarm’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Colorado’s John Grant Jr., scored his 600th career goal, just the third player in NLL history to hist that mark.

Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report for news and photos from The Hive next week as the Swarm wrap up their 2014 season and will prepare for next year’s draft and look to solidify the team for the 2015 season.
