In a century and a quarter old rivalry, the loss is the 12th consecutive game lost to the Badgers, leaving Gopher fans frustrated on a brisk late fall day.
The first play of the game saw Briean Boddy-Calhoun intercept a Badger pass and run the ball in for a touchdown. For the remainder of the game, the Gopher defense struggled to keep up with the Badger run game. One stretch of the game saw the Badgers run on 22 of 24 plays.
Minnesota trailed 14-28 at the half.
Wisconsin added a field goal and appeared content to run out the clock on the Gophers. Minnesota’s Drew Wolitarsky caught a Mitch Leidner touchdown pass with five and change minutes left in the game.
Leidner was 16-37 on the night and threw three interceptions in the loss. The Gophers end a tumultuous regular season with a 5-7 record and a 2-6 Big Ten record. They will most likely not be invited to a bowl game, although it is not out of the realm of possibility.
