The Minnesota Gophers hosted the St. Cloud State Huskies men’s hockey team for the first time this year on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Gophers would come up short, losing 3-2 following a pair of third period goals scored by the Huskies.
The Huskies opened scoring 3:28 into the game when David Morley beat Gophers’ goaltender Eric Schierhorn on the power play, the first short-handed goal the Gophers had given up in 14 penalty kills.
Minnesota rebounded in the second period, dominating the action and out shooting the Huskies 14-2 and scoring twice in just over a minute. Goals were scored by Jake Bischoff and Leon Bristedt.
The Huskies dominated the third period in similar fashion, scoring two goals and out shooting the Gophers 15-7. Jimmy Murray would score on the power play, the Huskies’ second PP goal of the game, Joey Benik scored the game winner with just under 13 minutes left in the game.
The two teams will meet again for the series finale on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Mariucci Arena for what is expected to be a great game.
