East Grand Forks derails Zephyrs in 2015 boys hockey tournament semi

The East Grand Forks Green Wave (defending champions) were seeded number three and were set to take on the #2 seed Mahtomedi Zephyrs as day two of the 2015 MSHSL Boys’ Hockey Tournament got underway on March 6, 2015. The hard-hitting Green Wave stifled the Mahtomedi offense, allowing them no space in the offensive zone and, as the game went on, were able to wear down the Mahtomedi defense.

The teams traded goals in the first period and again to start the second period. East Grand Forks shot ahead at 13:54 of the second period when Grant Loven scored his second goal of the afternoon, putting East Grand Forks up 3-2, that is how the period would end.

The Green Wave swept the Zephyrs off the tracks in the third period when the ice seemed to tilt in favor of the Green Wave. Trevor Selk and Austin Monda would add goals for the Green Wave, bringing the final score to 5-2.

With the win the Green Wave will face the winner of the other Class A semifinal between Hermantown and St. Cloud Apollo.
