Lakeville North advances to finals by defeating Eden Prairie in hockey semis

The Lakeville North Panthers, looking to remain perfect in 2015 after placing second last year, faced off against their south-metro rivals, the Eden Prairie Eagles.

The Panthers pounced first when Henry Enebak scores at the 7:45 point of the first period. Eden Prairie, to that point, was not in the game and for the remainder of the period, the Eagles struggled to keep the Panthers at bay.

Andy Aguilar put the Eagles on the board 23 seconds into the second period, giving the Eagles a much-needed boost. The Panthers took the lead on a power play goal by Jack Sadek but Eden Prairie would tie it on an even strength goal by Nicky Leivermann five minutes later.

The two power play goals were the difference in the game. The Eagles actually had four power play opportunities and capitalized on none of them while Panthers scored twice on three opportunities.

The Panthers scored four goals in the third period. The second of their power play goals and two even strength goals before putting an empty net goal in with less than a minute left in the period.

The Panthers will face the Greyhounds from Duluth East in the finals of the 2015 Class AA MSHSL Boys’ Hockey Tournament. Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report for news and photos from the tournament.
