The Eden Prairie Eagles defeat the Blaine Bengals: advance to semis of boys hockey tournament

The #5 seed Eden Prairie Eagles, with their perennial tournament appearances in most of the MSHSL tournaments, were underdogs when they faced off against the #4 seed Blaine Bengals in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 MSHSL Boys’ Hockey Tournament on March 5, 2015.

The Eagles and Bengals traded goals in the first period, skating to a 1-1 tie after 18 minutes. Casey Mittelstadt scored for the Eagles and Riley Tufte scored for the Bengals.

The second period belonged to the Eagles as they put four goals into the net, two, 2-minute flurries that netted two goals each for the Eden Prairie team. Michael Graham scored two, Cole Lawrence scored one and Mittelstadt added a goal to his total.

The third period saw Blaine come out strong as Easton Brodzinski and Ryan McArthur scored, but to no avail as the Eagles defeated the Bengals 5-3 at the end of regulation.

The Eagles will face the #1 seed Lakeville North Panthers in the semifinals on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center. Faceoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
