It is the second-to-last weekend for live racing at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn. The family fun at Canterbury Park included face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo for the kids as well as the three-story tall jungle gym for burning off excess energy. There were eight horse races scheduled on the day sparced with seven wiener dog dashes.
It was the pint-sized dogs that drew the buzz at the track. The winner of the day was Duke, a black and brown dachshund, racing in his third consecutive Wiener Dog Wars stole the championship on a late dash, beating Louie by a head. Louie had the race won but got distracted by the colored flags on the finish line and forgot to sprint through the finish, giving the dashing Duke the opening he needed.
