The Colorado Mammoth eliminated the Minnesota Swarm from the NLL Playoffs last year. The two teams met again to open the 2015 NLL season at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 3, 2015.
The Minnesota Swarm’s veteran leadership of Andrew Suitor (2015 team captain) along with Callum Crawford and Jordan MacIntosh returned. The team picked up, in the off-season, goalie Brodie MacDonald among others and drafted the top college lacrosse player last year, Miles Thompson. Missing was the 2014 rookie (and first round draft pick) Logan Schuss who is on a leave.
The Swarm jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and ended the first half up 6-5 against the Mammoth. The teams traded 4 goals each in the third quarter and after three the Swarm led 10-9.
The wheels fell off for the Swarm in the fourth quarter. The Mammoth scored 11 goals in the fourth, led by Sean Pollock who scored a hat trick and added two assists in the fourth. The Swarm struggled but managed to put three goals in the net, but lost in the end. The final score was Colorado 20, Minnesota 13.
Miles Thompson and Shayne Jackson had hat tricks for the Swarm. Jackson led the Swarm with seven points on the game while Colorado captain John Grant Jr led everyone in the game with nine points, four goals and five assists.
The Swarm will travel to Edmonton to take on the Rush on January 10. Their next home game is February 6 against the Rochester Knighthawks. Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report for more information and news from the Minnesota Swarm and the National Lacrosse League.
