The Minnesota Swarm has a record of 1-1 in 2015. The team is looking to rebound after two losing seasons and has numerous things going in its favor. Among the bright spots this season so far, rookie Miles Thompson, who has scored hat tricks in his first two games in the National Lacrosse League.
Thompson and teammate (and Swarm veteran) Corbyn Tao were joined by assistant coach Aime Caines and game day host Big D at Lion’s Tap in Eden Prairie for a meet and great on January 19, 2015.
We got a chance to catch up with the Swarm’s sharp shooter before the event started. Thompson, who lives in New York and commutes to Minnesota for Swarm related events, is a soft spoken 24 year old whose mild mannerism and infectious smile masks a tenacious scorer.
Thompson, after finishing two of the Lion’s Tap’s famous burgers, talked about his first couple games in the NLL. He shared some of the triumphs of his short two game NLL career so far, highlighted by his two hat tricks – that is right, he has played in two games and scored a hat trick 100% of his games played in the NLL.
He talked about how great the Swarm are coming together as a team, how the veterans have been extremely welcoming and how everyone is working to make each other better. Finally, Thompson had this piece of advice for young lacrosse players who aspire to play professionally.
Thompson’s advice, never give up, keep following your dream. He told the story about his brother who tried out for NLL teams in three times before finally making a team this year. He said that is what he draws inspiration from to never give up on his dreams.
The Swarm will play two games on the road before returning to The Hive (Xcel Energy Center) in St. Paul for Native American Heritage Nights at The Hive. Stay tuned to The Minnesota Sports Report for news on the Swarm and other Minnesota sports events.
