Gophers embark on Fleck voyage with win

The Minnesota Gophers football program launched the P.J. Fleck era with a few bumps, but the maiden voyage ended in a win.

It was not the prettiest game ever played, but, in the end, the Gophers walk away with a victory.  New Minnesota Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck is the third head coach for the University of Minnesota Gophers program in as many years.

Fleck’s mantra, row the boat, is evident, from the helmets to the walls under the stadium, it is hard to see anyone forgetting the message.

The quarterback tandem of red senior Connor Rhoda and sophomore Demery Croft alternated playing.  The highlight was when Rhoda hit receiver Tyler Johnson for a 61 yard touchdown.  Running back Shannon Brooks scored a one yard touchdown as well.

The team has a lot of work to do despite the 17-7 win.  They will be traveling to Oregon to take on the Oregon State Beavers on Saturday, Sept. 9. Stay tuned for more photos and news from Minnesota sports.
